Jeri day 16

Not a great report to give on either the social or the sailing today..
Post bad-tum spent evening in my room, watching Brazilian TV and eating coconut biscuits. Couldn´t face a meal of any kind. They kept trailing a Jackie Chan movie, but it never came on, or maybe I didn´t wait long enough.
This is what I can tell you about Brazilan TV:
Their news is v tabloid - lots of human interest. Toddlers killed in hit-and-run, drug dealer hits, etc. They like computer reconstructions of these events, and there are many witnesses ready to talk about them. Nothing wrong with the latter. Makes a nice change.
The news readers/reporters all tend to be bright women with long hair and a TENDENCY to roll around and EMPHASISE every other WORD. In a very lively way. Not many men. Not pretty enough, I imagine.
The news is on often.
The other popular genre is the soap opera; has a special name here, can´t remember what it is. They all look like Desperate Housewives with well-off pouting middle aged people flirting with each other, and sick bed reunions, etc.
There is at least one channel entirely dedicated to farming, with non-stop advertising featuring healthy cows and horses, and the products claimed to keep them that way. Occasionally they have montages of the beautiful wild Brazilian landscape, with forest, waterfalls etc. From these they cut back quickly to the herds of cattle trotting happily through the recently virgin rainforest.. I think. I could be interpreting this. I reckon the Brazilians are very proud of their environment. But they also want to be well off. Who doesn´t?
Then at the bottom of the dial there are lots of channels featuring church services with huge crowds. Rallies, even. Some Catholic. Some not.
They also have Brazil´s Got Talent.
Sailing. Still feeling a bit dicky today. Donned my sailing gear at noon, then bottled out because it was so hot and nasty. Girded loins once more at 2pm and was talked into a 4.2m sail. Spent 20 mins getting out through the high tide wind shadow and then inexorably drifted down wind. Had dropped off, to be fair. Ended up at the Kite Station, which as a reminder is about a mile away.
Said yes to a boat trip back with the gear. Regretted it. It was a right palaver, because the one guy in the boat insisted on separating board and sail, and de-rigging the sail in the water, with the engine on idle, in a fairly strong wind... And we did it twice because we picked up another stray also... And the trip back was into the wind and swell, and consequently very wet.
Shame, because it looked like it was a good day. 4.7 tomorrow, no arguments.
Jackie
